Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas Appoint New Board Member to Strengthen Leadership

Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas have appointed Syd Kitson to their Boards of Directors, bringing extensive leadership experience and a commitment to sustainable community development to both companies. The appointment, announced by Board Chair Scott Balfour, is effective as of February 4, 2026.

Kitson serves as chairman and CEO of Kitson & Partners, a Palm Beach Gardens-based real estate firm known for creating innovative and resilient communities, including Babcock Ranch, the nation’s first solar-powered town supported by natural gas. His leadership background also includes service as chair of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, the Florida Council of 100, and the State University System of Florida. Kitson holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Wake Forest University and was named a Distinguished Alumni in 2025. Before entering real estate, he played in the National Football League.

Scott Balfour said Kitson’s vision and experience will be valuable assets to both boards as Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas work to continue delivering safe, reliable energy to their customers and communities.

Tampa Electric is one of Florida’s largest investor-owned electric utilities, serving approximately 870,000 customers in West Central Florida, while Peoples Gas System is the state’s largest natural gas distribution utility, serving more than 520,000 homes and businesses. Both companies are subsidiaries of Emera Inc., a North American energy services provider.

Kitson’s appointment reflects the companies’ ongoing commitment to strong governance and forward-looking leadership as they navigate the evolving energy landscape and continue serving Florida’s communities.
