By The Numbers: June 2011

In May, Florida posted the highest level of job creation of any state, with 28,000 jobs added back to the Florida economy. Florida’s unemployment rate also dropped for the fifth consecutive month to a level of 10.6%.

Florida’s Agency for Workforce Innovation announced the unemployment rate dropped to 10.8 percent in April, reaching a level not seen since November 2009 and fostering hope that a demonstrable jobs recovery is finally under way.

March employment figures grew in a positive direction for both Florida and the United States, although at 11.1%, Florida is still experiencing an unemployment rate that is 2.3% higher than the national average. Overall five industry categories posted year over job growth in Florida with the Leisure and Hospitality industry leading the state with an estimated 35,300 job gains since last year.

By The Numbers: March 2011

Florida’s economy took a positive step forward in February, reporting an unemployment rate of 11.5%, which is down 0.4 percent from January and notably represents the largest monthly decline in the Florida unemployment rate since October 1992.

The national and state unemployment rates were in modest decline in January, with some sources suggesting that the remaining unemployment is largely structural, or resulting from a mismatch between labor skills and labor demand within the economy.

By The Numbers: January 2011

Florida’s unemployment rate remained unchanged from the previous month at 12% while the United States unemployment rate edged down by 0.4%. Since last year, Florida’s economy added a total of 43,500 jobs with Leisure and Hospitality emerging as an industry with a positive 3.8% employment growth.

Both Florida and the United States experienced modest gains in employment for the month of November while seeing the overall unemployment edge slightly up. The Florida unemployment rate now stands .3% below the all-time recorded high of 12.3%, which occurred in March 2010.
