One of the most important long-term decisions in Florida is water policy. An increased population means an increased need for vital resources such as water. Florida’s population is expected to grow by 5.4 million residents by 2030. From a single glass of water to fueling Florida’s large agriculture economy, water discussions must take into account the needs of the future so sound policies can be enacted today. The Florida Chamber will continue to fight to ensure Florida’s water future is sustainable and provides the quality of life Floridians and visitors deserve. The 2018 Legislative Session has begun, and your input on sound water solutions for Florida is needed.

Water Solutions Survey

1. Florida’s Constitution requires taxpayers to pay more than $20 Billion over the next two decades for important environmental initiatives. As Florida continues to grow, Florida will need 20% more usable water by 2030. Would you support the legislature using a portion of these constitutionally-mandated dollars to do this, even if politicians find it unfavorable?

2. Do you believe science-based solutions are the way to ensure Florida’s water future is sustainable? *

3. Governor Rick Scott and a number of legislators have proposed investing state dollars into converting septic systems to municipal sewage systems. Do you support or oppose the state legislature using state matching dollars for the conversion? *

4. Florida and Georgia have engaged in a decades long debate over how much water Georgia uses from the rivers the states share. Do you think Florida should continue to fight for science-based water policy, even if it takes litigating against another state all the way to the Supreme Court?

5. The legislature is again talking about water policy. Some want political science. The Florida Chamber wants water science. How should government fund future infrastructure projects?

6. Are you aware of the Florida Chamber’s water solutions efforts, including our “Florida’s Water Future” series of educational videos which focus on ensuring Florida’s water future is sustainable?
