Robert E. White, Jr., President of TDC Group, to Receive 2026 MPL Association Award of Excellence in Honor of Peter Sweetland
The Medical Professional Liability Association (MPL Association) has selected Robert E. White, Jr., President of TDC Group, as the 2026 recipient of the Award of Excellence in Honor of Peter Sweetland. This distinction is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the medical professional liability insurance field and the association’s mission.
White brings nearly six decades of experience in the insurance industry. In his role leading TDC Group, he oversees its main business units, including The Doctors Company, Healthcare Risk Advisors, and TDC Specialty Underwriters. Earlier in his career, he directed claims and loss prevention for a range of insurers and served as president of FPIC Insurance Group’s insurance operations before its acquisition by TDC.
Throughout his career, White has been deeply involved with the MPL Association, participating on its board, serving in leadership sections and committees, and advocating for issues affecting malpractice insurers. His work has also extended to guiding state tort reform initiatives and addressing regulatory matters.
MPL Association Board Chair J. Michael Conerly, MD, highlighted White’s longstanding support for the association and his dedication to advancing quality healthcare and supporting the professionals insured by member companies.
White also holds leadership positions outside of the MPL Association, including chairing the Florida Justice Reform Institute and serving on boards such as the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Insurance Council. Reflecting on receiving the award named after his mentor Peter Sweetland, White said it was one of the most meaningful moments of his career.
The award will be presented at the MPL Association’s annual conference on May 14 in Philadelphia. Originally established in 1993, it honors the legacy of Peter Sweetland, a key figure in building the association and a model of leadership and service.
