Tampa General Hospital Foundation Announces Transformative Gift to Create a New Hybrid Operating Room

Tampa, FL — On August 20, 2025, the Tampa General Hospital (TGH) Foundation announced a transformative donation from the Jenkins Charitable Foundation that will fund the creation of a cutting-edge hybrid operating room. With a price tag just under $10 million, this advanced surgical suite—fusing traditional operating capabilities with high-end interventional imaging—will enhance care for patients undergoing complex vascular procedures.

A key highlight of this initiative is the innovation it enables in surgical care. The new hybrid operating room will merge state-of-the-art surgical environments with advanced imaging equipment, allowing surgeons to perform intricate vascular operations more efficiently and precisely. According to Dr. Jean Bismuth, chief of Vascular Surgery and medical director of the TGH Heart & Vascular Institute, this facility will “streamline care, promise to improve outcomes and elevate the standard of vascular treatment” in the Tampa Bay region.

Beyond the facility’s technical impact, the gift reflects a longstanding Tampa legacy. For the Jenkins family—whose roots in science and pharmaceuticals span five generations in the region—the donation is both an investment in local health innovation and a tribute to their history. As Steve Jenkins put it, they hope the gift “provides access to cutting-edge care in the community” and ensures TGH has the tools to attract top medical talent.
