Small Business Council Member Spotlight: Pinellas Technical College

We sat down with Dr. Jake Prokop with Pinellas Technical College to ask three important questions:

What does your business do?
Post – Secondary Technical College

What is your biggest concern as a small business owner?
The biggest challenge we face is the recruitment of teachers. There is a special skill set which is required for a quality teacher. These folks are usually the top performers in their industries. This makes it difficult to recruit them into education. Once they come to us, they see what a fantastic career choice they have made.

Tell us why you joined the Small Business Council and what you would say to other business leaders about the benefit and value of this council.
I joined this council because I want to connect with small businesses to learn more about how education can help them meet their local economic goals and support our community. Without a strong workforce provider, the community suffers, and the quality of life can drop. It is imperative for education professionals to engage with the community to ensure a seamless, quick, and appropriate, response to local and state needs.
