PNC Bank Launches Mobile Branch in South Florida

30-foot “bank on wheels” offers access to financial resources, education in underserved areas

PNC Bank officially debuts its mobile branch program in South Florida this week, underscoring its commitment to the community by making banking easier and more accessible for unbanked and underbanked residents.

“As many as one in four South Florida households lack a bank account or adequate access to essential financial services, such as credit and loans, which creates a barrier to financial stability and economic mobility,” said Cressman Bronson, PNC regional president for Southeast Florida. “By complementing our existing branch network with the mobile branch, we can better reach neighborhoods in need, foster stronger relationships with residents in those areas, and serve as a trusted, reliable resource on their journey to financial wellness.”

The custom-designed 30-foot bank on wheels offers comprehensive banking services when and where a traditional branch may not be available. The mobile branch will make dedicated stops on a bi-weekly schedule, partnering with organizations in Palm Beach and Broward counties that are well-established in delivering community services, including: Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches; City of Riviera Beach; City of South Bay; City of West Palm Beach; Esperanza Community Center; FLITE Center; The Glades Initiative; Hispanic Unity of Florida; and the West Palm Beach Housing Authority.

At the mobile branch, community members can meet with a personal banker, open a checking account, apply for a personal loan, credit card or mortgage, receive or replace a PNC debit card, or access a self-service ATM. Bankers fluent in Spanish and Haitian Creole are available to assist customers, and materials in both languages are provided onboard.

PNC also works with partner organizations to facilitate in-person or virtual financial education sessions, for customers and community members who need assistance reaching their financial goals. These sessions include seminars and tools to help individuals make informed financial decisions, such as understanding credit reports and credit history, affordable homeownership options, tactics to raise money-smart kids, wealth-building strategies and other foundations of money management.

The mobile branch program is aligned with PNC’s $88 billion Community Benefits Plan, which bolsters economic opportunity for low- and moderate-income individuals, communities and people of color.

“In the ever-evolving landscape of our city, the introduction of PNC Bank’s mobile branch marks a significant leap towards financial inclusivity and empowerment for our residents,” said Jonathan Evans, Riviera Beach City Manager and CRA Executive Director. “This innovative approach not only bridges the gap for our unbanked and underbanked communities but also reinforces Riviera Beach’s commitment to fostering economic growth and stability.”

“By partnering with PNC, we are not just bringing banking services to the doorstep of our people; we are opening doors to opportunities, education, and a brighter financial future,” continued Evans. “We wholeheartedly welcome this initiative and are eager to see the positive impact it will have on individual lives and our community as a whole.”

PNC has previously deployed mobile branches in Florida as a response to natural disasters, including areas impacted by Hurricane Ian in 2022. South Florida will now become the ninth market to welcome a dedicated mobile branch since the program debuted in 2020. Mobile branches are currently active in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas-Fort Worth, Detroit, Houston and Phoenix. Learn more about PNC’s mobile branches here.
