Helping Save the Manatee with 1,300 Rescues, Rehabilitations and Returns
As we enter Manatee Awareness Month, the population faces an unprecedented crisis with a record Unusual Mortality Event (UME) that threatens to return these iconic sea mammals to the endangered species list. Manatees play an important role in the overall marine ecosystem and it’s crucial that we come together now to help them before they are gone forever.
As the largest manatee rescue operation in the world, SeaWorld has completed nearly 1,300 manatee rescues, rehabilitations, and returns. We operate one of only five critical care facilities in the U.S. and our team is making breakthroughs in nutrition and care that is increasing survival rates of orphaned, sick, and injured manatees. We are part of a community of non-profit, private, state, and federal entities that work together to monitor the health and survival of manatees.
