Record Number of Manatees Returned to Blue Spring State Park

A few weeks ago, our Orlando rescue team and other Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP) members made history and returned a record-breaking 12 manatees – the most in a single day! Eight of those manatees were rehabilitated at SeaWorld Orlando. After months of round-the-clock care, we were thrilled to see the sea cows return home to Blue Spring State Park, a vital warm-water habitat.

Since 2020, thousands of endangered manatees have been impacted by an ongoing Unusual Mortality Event (UME), leaving many starved, malnourished, and orphaned. Dozens of calves and adults have temporarily called SeaWorld home, where our animal care specialists and veterinarians administer lifesaving care.

SeaWorld Orlando is one of three federally permitted critical care facilities currently taking rescued manatees, and is dedicated to protecting and caring for sick, injured, and orphaned manatees. To learn more about this record-breaking return, read here.
