Florida Polytechnic University has launched the new academic year with a record-breaking enrollment of more than 1,900 students, marking a more than 10% increase from last year and the second consecutive year of growth. The milestone reflects rising demand for the University’s rigorous STEM-focused programs and highlights Florida Poly’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation, research, and career readiness. Leaders say the momentum signals steady progress toward the institution’s long-term vision of becoming a nationally recognized destination for high-demand STEM education.
Expanding Opportunities in STEM
As the state’s only public institution exclusively dedicated to STEM, Florida Poly continues to attract students seeking high-demand career paths. This year’s incoming class of more than 750 new students—including freshmen, transfers, and graduate students—represents a significant step toward the University’s goal of reaching 3,000 students by 2030.
Campus Growth and Student Experience
Enrollment momentum is matched by physical expansion. The new 40,000-square-foot Gary C. Wendt Engineering Building is nearing completion, providing advanced research labs, collaboration spaces, and faculty offices. Construction is also underway on a Campus Control Center to house the Florida Poly Police Department, while a 138,400-square-foot Student Achievement Center is in development to further support student success.
Rooted in Florida, Reaching Nationwide
Among first-year students, 91% come from within Florida, with the remainder representing 18 other states including New York, Texas, and Washington. Forty percent of students hail from four central Florida counties—Polk, Orange, Osceola, and Hillsborough—underscoring Florida Poly’s commitment to cultivating local talent while welcoming diverse perspectives from across the country.
