Growing and diversifying Florida’s economy is essential to creating jobs and opportunities for Floridians. By building on Florida’s core industries—tourism, agriculture, and construction— and investing in innovative next generation industries (aviation and aerospace, cleantech, defense and homeland security, financial and professional services, health care and life sciences, information technology, logistics and distribution, and manufacturing), Florida can continue to attract a world class workforce and lead the way in job creation.
Since 2010, Florida has created more than 1.4 million private sector jobs and 1 in every 10 jobs in the U.S. In 2018, the Florida Chamber’s Chief Economist predicts Florida will become a $1 trillion economy (that’s bigger than Saudi Arabia). While Florida has an economic outlook with much to look forward to, the fact is that several states and nations are targeting the same high-wage industries. We must continue to signal that Florida is open for business and ready for economic development. As we move further into 2018, your input on how Florida can continue to diversify and expand is needed.
