Chairman of the Board, GATES (Bonita Springs)


As Founder and Chairman, Mr. Gates provides executive management oversight and support for all GATES projects.  He is responsible for all financial aspects of the company.  He is involved in Owner contract negotiations and participates in applicable Owner/Architect/Contractor meetings.  He is also very involved in the schedules for every GATES project.

A native of Virginia, Mr. Gates has been visiting Southwest Florida since 1969 and moved permanently to the area in 1984.  In 1993, Mr. Gates founded GATES.  Today, the firm is a fully integrated construction management, general contracting and design-build firm with offices in Florida, North Carolina and the Republic of Panama.

Mr. Gates’ leadership and community service includes serving as an advisor, board member or chair for the Economic Development Council of Collier County (EDC), Christian Chamber of Southwest Florida,  Collier Building Industry Association, Lee County Economic Development Horizon Council, Lee Memorial Health System Foundation, Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, Junior Achievement, the President’s Council, Chamber of Southwest Florida, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Hodges University, and many others.

As acknowledgement of his commitment and dedication to the community, Mr. Gates has been recognized as one of Gulfshore Life Magazine’s “Men of The Year” as well as one of the Education Foundation of Collier County’s “Men of Distinction” and “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Gulf Coast Business Review.  Mr. Gates is a graduate and highly active alumni member of Leadership Florida.  The members of Leadership Florida are dedicated not only to their local communities, but to their statewide community.  In 2008, he was recognized by Gulfshore Business Magazine as one of the “Top 50 Power Players” in Southwest Florida, ranking him in the top 10 on the list.

Mr. Gates was instrumental in starting the “Soaring with Eagles Program” aimed at the area’s numerous retired CEO’s and military leaders.  He is also an active supporter of numerous local charities including children’s healthcare organizations and wounded veterans programs.
