House Subcommittee Discusses Workers’ Comp Fix

With an eye on fixing Florida’s workers’ compensation system after a $1.5 billion increase on the business community, the House Insurance and Banking Subcommittee met today to discuss potential fixes that might be included in a future workers’ comp bill. (Click here to review the House’s proposal.)

In testimony before the committee, Carolyn Johnson, the Florida Chamber’s Director of Business, Economic Development and Innovation Policy, was in attendance and shared the business community’s concerns, which included whether the current House proposal would actually reduce workers’ comp rates and reduce litigation. The Florida Chamber believes the current Florida House proposal might not address the problems in the current system that resulted from the Florida Supreme Court’s decisions, specifically with regard to attorney fees.

Although no vote was taken, today’s meeting was an opportunity for lawmakers to hear from stakeholders interested in fixing Florida’s workers’ comp system.
