Collective Bargaining Reform

Where We Stand: What this means for your business

Union membership has been declining, currently hovering around 7.5 percent in the private sector and big labor unions like the AFL-CIO have spent heavily to try to change the rules and reverse that trend. In addition, the National Labor Relations Board has gone above and beyond in recent decisions to further erode the individual rights of employees and employers.

Government should not be in the business of collecting private organization funds that could be used for lobbying and political activities, and Florida workers should have a voice in how their union dues are spent.

The Florida Chamber will advocate for meaningful reforms to how government unions collectively bargain, ensuring employees are free to choose how they want their union dues spent.

We Must:
  • Support legislation that removes the role of government in collecting union dues and gives union members the freedom to choose how their dues are spent, and
  • Focus the collective bargaining ability of teachers unions to only those employment issues that deal directly with hours worked and wages/benefits paid.
