Roy C. Young, Esq.
Roy Young, President of Young van Assenderp, P.A., is a graduate of the University of Richmond (1963). He received his legal education at the University of Virginia Law School (1966). Formerly a partner with the Holland & Knight law firm, he now practices extensively in public utility, legislative and administrative law, and is heavily involved in representing associations, lending institutions, foundations and other clients in their dealings with the public, the government, and the Legislature. Mr. Young represented Orlando Utilities Commission in its quest for power plants (Stanton 1 and 2), both in presentation of the need for a proposed facility and in environmental certification of location, construction and operation. Mr. Young has assisted Kissimmee Utility Authority in their quest for the Need for a Power Plant before the Public Service Commission and the subsequent Site Certification process with the Department of Environmental Protection. Mr. Young has represented the City of Lakeland, before the Public Service Commission, in their Petition to Determine Need for Electrical Power Plant (McIntosh Unit 5 and proposed conversion from simple to combined cycle). Mr. Young represented Orlando Utilities Commission in negotiating its territorial agreement with Florida Power Corporation and recently represented the City of Maitland in negotiations with Florida Power Corporation to renew the franchise agreement with them.
Mr. Young presently serves as General Counsel to Florida Engineering Society, Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers and the Florida Chamber of Commerce, Inc.
Mr. Young is a member of the Panel of Arbitrators, American Arbitration Association, and is a Certified Circuit Court Mediator.
Mr. Young is a member of the Florida, Virginia, and American Bars and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Florida; and the U.S. Court of Appeal, Fifth and Eleventh Circuits.
