By The Numbers: May 2011
Florida’s Agency for Workforce Innovation announced the unemployment rate dropped to 10.8 percent in April, reaching a level not seen since November 2009 and fostering hope that a demonstrable jobs recovery is finally under way. It’s expected to remain one of the highest in the country, but represents a drop of 1.2 percent, since peaking at a modern-era record 12 percent in December in 2010. Flagler County had the highest record at 13.8 percent but Monroe County had the lowest record at 6.3 percent. The national unemployment rate remained lower than Florida’s, recording 9.5 percent in April.
