Without significant state and federal action, Florida stands to lose thousands of jobs and a vital industry due to the pending retirement of the Space Shuttle program.

| NASA is scheduled to retire its shuttle fleet next year, and for at least five years after that, no humans are scheduled to launch from Florida’s Space Coast. With only a few Space Shuttle flights remaining, the program that has symbolized Florida’s space superiority for decades is coming to an end. Shuttle-related work in Florida supports a payroll of $600 million. (more) |
