Florida taxpayers need relief from certain local government spending decisions and the unfair property tax burdens being levied to pay for those choices.
Florida's broken property tax system is unfair and unsustainable for Florida taxpayers. Many local governments across the state collected significant increases in property taxes during Floria's recent booming real estate market due to significant increases in assessed values of property. Rather than returning this windfall to Florida taxpayers, or even investing in much needed infrastructure, many local governments have spent this money at a rate faster than taxpayers' ability to pay. The Florida Chamber supports passing a joint resolution and additional legislation to stop shifting of the property tax burden onto business properties.
