Rising health care costs are a significant fiscal threat to Florida’s employers and citizens.

 
 


Annual health care costs for employers will rise 166 percent over the next decade, from $10,743 per employee today to $28,530 by 2019. Florida health coverage facts:

• 8,406,200 (46.7 percent) of Floridians receive coverage
   through their employers.

• 934,600 (5.2 percent) of Floridians purchase individual coverage.

• 1,824,400 (10.1 percent) of Floridians are covered through Medicaid.

• 2,980,800 (16.5 percent) of Floridians are covered through Medicare.

• 237,600 (1.3 percent) have other types of coverage.

• 3,633,400 (20.2 percent) of Floridians are uninsured.

• With 52 health insurance mandates, Florida is 11th highest in the U.S.
